Nasatir graduated from Jefferson in 1943 and pursued a degree in journalism at Northwestern. She was the first woman to become a vice president of a major Hollywood studio. ![]() Marcia Nasatir: Born in San Antonio, Nasatir graduated in 1943. The Express-News reported that a high school counselor pushed Moerner to apply for an engineering scholarship at an out-of-state university, which ultimately led to an academic career and the Nobel Prize in chemistry more than 40 years later. Stanford University Professor William Moerner is a Nobel Prize winner and graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. The Stanford University professor earned the honor for “using fluorescence to extend the limits of the light microscope,” which has made it possible to study molecular processes in real time. William Moerner: Moerner, a 1971 Jefferson graduate, is one of three scientists who won the Nobel Prize in 2014. Fullerenes are hollow carbon molecules in the shape of a sphere, ellipsoid or cylinder. ![]() Robert Floyd Curl Jr.: Curl., a 1950 Jefferson graduate, earned the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1996 for his work in helping discover fullerenes, according to the Nobel Prize website. The pair along with Harry Kroto of the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
